EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
"WE OBSERVED A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE CONCENTRATIONS
OF COLONY FORMING UNITS FOR THE SAMPLES TAKEN WITH AND WITHOUT THE OPERATION
OF THE SANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier." "BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS,
WE THEREFORE CONSIDER THAT THE SANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier
HAD A POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE QUALITY OF AIR."
In
October 1996, an independent study on "Comparative Evaluation of Air Quality
using the SANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier" to assess the
efficiency of the device in air treatment was performed by Contex Industrial
& Environmental Hygiene Ltd. Montreal, Quebec. (Excerpts from this study are
presented below).
The calibration of equipment and the analytical procedures were performed
in compliance with the methods generally accepted in Industrial Hygiene.
1. The temperatures and relative
humidity were assessed with an Environmental Tectonics Corporation psychrometer.
2. The concentrations of
carbon dioxide (CO2) were measured with a Riken Model RI-411 infrared spectrophotometer.
3. A Biotest Model RCS centrifuge
air sampler was used to access the concentrations of microorganisms in the
air. The flow rate was 40 liters per minute, the rotation speed was 4096 rpm
and the overall accuracy of the flow rate was +- 2%. The culture media consisted
of a solution of Agar GK-A.
4. Dräger reactive tubes
Model 6733081 were used for the detection of formaldehyde. The lower limit
of detection was 0.04 ppm.
5. Dräger reactive tubes
Model 25601 were used for the detection of carbon monoxide. The lower limit
of detection was 0.5 ppm.
6. Dräger reactive tubes
Model 6733181 were used for the detection of ozone gas. The lower limit of
detection was 0.005 ppm.
7. An SKC sampling pump was
used with the reactive tubes.
All residences had a forced
air heating system, and two were also equipped with an air exchanger. Three
residences were equipped with an electronic filter, one had an electrostatic
filter and one had a high efficiency cartridge filter.
RESULTS
OZONE: No trace of Ozone was detected in any of the residences studied before and during the operation of theSANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier.
FORMALDEHYDE: No trace of Formaldehyde was detected in any of the residences studied before and during the operation of the SANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier.
CARBON MONOXIDE: Before and during the operation of the SANUVOX Next Generation Natural Air Purifier the Carbon Monoxide concentrations were generally lower than 0.5 ppm.
